Over the holdiays, plans were made for some exciting changes and happenings over at Need Coffee. And to go along with that, I’m making a few more changes to my own blogs:
FROM SOMEWHERE, VOLUME TWO (which would be here) is going to continue on with the usual assortment of random thoughts, funny bits, and observations. Going forward, though, the items here may be less entertainment based.
Much of my TV coverage is in the process of going over to Need Coffee, which sort of leaves TEST PATTERNS in a bit of a limbo right now- as we try test the waters to figure out which portions of the television coverage (reviews, essays, the news bits, or all of the above) works best at NC.
Due to technical difficulties (ahem, BLOGGERSUCKS cough, cough), the WGA strike, and a complete disinterest in ‘reality’ television- TEST PATTERNS hasn’t really had much to say.
But if you’ve come looking for TV stuff, or if somehow you’ve wandered this way due to my participation in Bravo’s TV BIG SHOT game , please hop on over to Need Coffee and support.
I will, however, continue to periodically update my experience with the game over at the PATTERNS.

In a move that, well, damn well suprised both EA and Microsoft (who were also courting them not too long ago), Vivendi and Activsion will merge (in a series of complex combo transactions of stock and cash that would make any World of Warcraft player proud) to form Activision Blizzard.
For the record, Activision will oversee production of all the (formerly Universal) Vivendi games, franchises, and IPs (Crash, Spyro, Call of Duty); Blizzard (WoW, Warhammer, Diablo) will continue to operate mostly independently.
And since Activision also bought Guitar Hero pub Red Octane earlier this year, that places both your GH Axe and you WoW axe under the same roof. It also makes the combined company the largest Vid Game publisher, just overtaking EA until they buy someone else.

responding to Venger: “Honestly, that’s a lot of look! Black and Red as a color scheme wouldn’t work outside of a White Stripes concert or maybe an SCA event. And you’d still have to lose the wings. ….”

After four days of talks, the WGA has rejected the latest offer from the AMPTP.
Which, of course, means you are SOL.
Thank you for playing. We now return you to your regularly scheduled re-runs.

So that’s the word-BBC has confirmed as much. Sometime during Series Four.
Now reportedly, its for three episodes of the afforementioned S4, and (as the rumor further stretches itself) possibly for at least one of the three scheduled Who specials in 2009.
Now, allow me to now call bullshit on that extended rumor. Thank you.

Lipstick Jungle, the Brooke Shields led series based on a Candice Bushnell novel will take over ER’s slot in February (when the medical drama is said to run out of fresh epsiodes).
It seems that this would be the first time (barring special events and the like) that the show’s been bumped from the timeslot since ER premiered 14 years ago.

This is the story of a newspaper column / blog / column/ blog that just wouldn’t die. This despite the fact that I actually killed it two years ago.
Back then, the idea was to seperate things- my personal ramblings from my creative works from my journalistic stuff.
And then, lo these two years later, I realized it didn’t work. Because you don’t partition your head that way. The original FS was always stream of conciousness. And in doing seperate blogs / columns- I’ve found that waiting to say what you want to say in it’s right place means there’s less to say when you get around to finally saying it.
I have a lot of ideas, stray thoughts that don’t yet fit anything. Expanded versions of some these thoughts tend to wind up in the columns/ articles/ podcasts that I do.
But, as I’ve come to realize, not having some sort of central idea bank makes it much harder to compose the columns/ articles/ blogs/ podcasts that I do.
Because when you have to hold a thought, one of two things happens-you either hang onto it until its fermented enough, or you forget it (or you can misremember it, which as you get older does become a seperate thing).
So, in (a)Rw experiment #5678, we shall try not to forget.
And maybe post more.
